In celebration of sustainable living, global awareness, and the joy of nature, five Ojai-based organizations team up to host this once-a-year free community event - Food for Thought, Oak Grove School, Ojai Valley Green Coalition, Ojai Valley Land Conservancy, and Once Upon a Watershed. The day will include live entertainment, world food, environmental presentations and exhibits, art, field play, yoga, community involvement, and great ideas for our world. Everything takes place under the trees on Oak Grove School’s 150-acre campus, 220 W. Lomita Avenue, Ojai. This year, elementary students from schools throughout the Ojai Valley will be creating 9 x 9" cloth squares with illustrated and written wishes for our watershed, that will then be displayed for all to see. Visitors will also have ample opportunities to find ways to live greener and appreciate the natural wonders we all share.
Bring your refillable water bottles and please leave your dogs at home for this event. Thanks!
Friday Night Concert - Bring your best, comfiest dancing shoes to a family-friendly benefit evening of folk music and contra dancing, from 7:00 to 10:00PM Friday, April 18th, at Earthtrine Farm (aka Dautch Family Farm), 1091 Cuyama Road, in Ojai. Suggested donation is $10, kids under 12 free. All concert proceeds are being donated to Ojai’s Earth Day event. The evening’s music will be presented by The Onlies, one of Seattle’s top folk ensembles and contra-dance bands. The acoustic trio—Samantha Braman, Leo Shannon, and Riley Calcagno—plays traditional and original fiddle-driven folk rooted in Ireland, Scotland, and the Americas. In concert, they perform many of their own songs, most written for three-part harmony. And during dances, they get down and dirty with traditional fiddle tunes, perfect for line and circle dancing, and the occasional waltz. A seasoned caller will lead everyone, teaching and then calling the tunes to dancers of all ages and abilities – no previous square-dancing experience is needed! We look forward to seeing you there! For details on the band, visit www.TheOnlies.com (includes music and videos) or email info@theOnlies.com.
